How To Play

Everyone can play

  • We recommend that players are ideally aged between 4 and 10.
  • The game can also work for flatmates and people away from home for the first time. The dealer can include themselves, too.
  • First, decide the rewards and the number of completed tasks on the cards that the players need to earn them.
  • Tell the players and stick to it.
  • The best rewards are NOT bribes. So make the rewards include everyone, whether it's a trip to the park, their choice of a bedtime story or a ski holiday. Whatever suits your own household.

Make the game your own

  • There are 80 different chore cards, 10 Excuses cards and 10 Write Your Own cards as well.
  • If you don't have a garden you'll probably want to remove the gardening cards.
  • Some tasks may be better suited to older children.
  • Just remove the cards you don't need today.

Do The Shuffle

  • Get the players around a table.
  • No phones allowed.
  • Shuffle the pack with the cards you want.
  • Each player draws 5 cards without looking.

Excuses!

  • If a player draws an Excuses! card as one of their five cards, then they only have to do the chores on the other cards.

I Hate Doing That!

  • If a player truly, madly, deeply doesn't like their chore, it's ok.
  • Just return that card to the pack.
  • Then take 2 other cards. They can't change those.
  • Who said life was fair, anyway?

Did You Think It Was Over?

Once the chores are done, get the players talking about how they did them. What was the hardest part? How did they deal with it? What did they learn?

They've solved problems and made decisions for themselves, all with the satisfaction of knowing they've helped other people.

Plus, you get a tidier, cleaner, happier home

Everybody wins!

They thought it was a cute idea!

"It's a tool to add to ways to encourage kids to help about the house, and learn life-skills. It maybe delayed arguments, temporarily! Make it more complex for older kids, categories, points building, more gamification., linked to wider strategies, allowances, task reminders."

★★★★

Add Rewards cards!

"A game for the whole family, encouraging helpfulness. We felt it was for primary-aged children. It has lots of ideas for things to get children involved in. The cards are great quality.
